First Choice Homes Oldham Community Centre Paint Day
GROWE – Grassroots Oldham Women’s Enterprise offers the local community a space to socialise, learn new skills, such as sustainable garden skills and even grow fruit and vegetables and is a real asset to the local community. Since it started in August 2022, FCHO has been assisting with the refurbishment of the centre, through their employee volunteering programme.
Our Social Value Manager, Linda Beaumont, and a team of Connolly volunteers visited Growe Community Centre in Oldham to assist First Choice Homes Oldham with their community centre paint day.
Works consisted of painting and laying the foundations for the goat house, that will be constructed shortly. The event gave Connolly a chance to give back to the community and engage with local groups. Volunteers were also treated to a delicious lunch, provided by local women’s group, Northern Lily, who are frequent users of the centre.
Victoria Holden, Northern Lily and Rose Salli, Grassroots Oldham Women Enterprise said “We are so grateful for the support we have received from Connolly to help us bring the site which was formerly derelict back into community use. Connolly has helped us to create a goat shelter enabling a local woman Alison Purnell to establish her own therapy goat social enterprise. The outside and inside of the community centre have been painted which makes such a big difference to creating a clean and welcoming environment for the whole community to enjoy. We have also got to know their skilled team of professionals who have shared their skills and expertise as well as took a keen interest in the project. It’s been a joy to have the team on site!”
It was a fantastic day for all involved, Connolly are proud to have been able to assist with the refurbishment. The community centre is already such a big part of the community, and we look forward to seeing the end result.
