Project Details
- Client: Wigan Council
- Location: Wigan
- Duration: 78 weeks
- Value: £2.8m
Our scope of works involved:
- 11 extensions to the main block with associated structural alteration works and full M&E solution.
- New door entry, warden call and FRA compartmentation works.
- Demolition of existing link corridor and construction of new link corridor and communal lounge extension.
- External re-modelling including the installation of new drainage system and secure boundary wall.
- External landscaping.
Our works involved the full internal and external refurbishment of 33nr flats at an existing sheltered accommodation scheme. Undertaking a partnering approach, we were able to provide value engineering solutions for buildability issues and to assist with the client’s budget.
One of the main challenges of this scheme was ensuring that the accommodation remained open and fully functional throughout the duration of the programme. To ensure this, we liaised with the client to review, agree and change egress routes following each phase and enabling the smooth de-cant and re-cant of residents.
We aim to consistently deliver a positive experience for our clients and residents by going above and beyond. For this scheme, we held weekly coffee mornings with the residents to keep them updated on the project. We also took residents to Myerscough College and The Southport Flower Show to give them ideas and assistance for local planting, for the scheme.
